DESCRIPTION:August Peer Support – Advocating for Yourself \nAt Autistic Nottingham\, we believe everyone deserves to feel heard\, understood\, and empowered to express their needs. Our monthly peer support groups provide a welcoming\, accepting\, and non-judgemental space where autistic adults can connect with others who understand their experiences. \nThis month\, we’ll be exploring self-advocacy building the confidence to speak up for yourself in a way that works for you. Together we’ll discuss topics such as preparing for GP and hospital appointments\, communicating your needs\, requesting reasonable adjustments in education or the workplace\, understanding your rights\, and finding practical strategies to help you feel more confident in everyday situations. \nWhether you’re already comfortable advocating for yourself or are just beginning to find your voice\, you’re very welcome. This is a supportive space to share experiences\, learn from one another\, and take away practical ideas. There is never any pressure to speak\, listening is just as valuable\, and sharing is always optional. \nSupported By;

DESCRIPTION:This 6-week course is run by two facilitators who are Autistic and trained as Autism Peer Support Workers. Their role is to facilitate group sessions throughout the course on a number of topics\, including: \nUnderstanding the Diagnosis\nA session focusing on what Autism is and what it is not. We will look at the diagnostic criteria and break it down into understandable language and relatable examples. \nHealth & Self-Care\nAutism has many co-occurring conditions that many people are not aware of. This session covers those\, along with basic health and self-care advice. \nRelationships\nA session around romantic and platonic relationships\, and how to navigate them. \nSocialising\nA session around making friends and how to keep friendships. \nRights & Responsibilities\nA session around what your rights are\, as well as other supportive schemes and benefits that may be available post-diagnosis. \nWrap-up & Reflection\nAn ending session to review everything that has been discussed\, look at next steps\, and wrap up the course. \n\nTo join the course\, please purchase a ticket. Your ticket gives you access to all six video call sessions. \nThis course is designed as a full six-session programme\, so sessions are not available to book individually. \nFor any questions or issues\, please email\nsocial@autisticnottingham.org.
